The move towards all-IP core network technologies has spread the emergence of some commercial but also some free software toolkits that help with the establishment, testing and usage of complex NGN testbeds. This special session of TridentCom 2008 outlines some experiences gained during the establishment and operation of NGN testbeds and introduces software that enables associated R&D work.
